History (Original Vehicle)
By the end of 1968, Ferrari had developed a new sports car with an open Spyder body, which came to be known as 312P and was designated to participate in the 1969 World Sportscar Championship.
The first showdown took place on March 31st, 1969 at the famous 12 Hours of Sebring in the USA, where Ferrari 312P was pitted against such favorites as Porsche 908, Ford GT 40, and Alfa Romeo Tipo 40 and 33. As the top drivers of the Ferrari team, Mario Andretti and his co-pilot Chris Amon from New Zealand won a widely-recognized 2nd place in the overall placing, and one class victory in their 420-hp Ferrari 312P with starting number 25.
